After completing her studies, obtaining a Master’s degree in Engineering in 2005 and a PhD in 2009 from University of Zagreb, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Mrs. Brnjac continued her academic career as Head of the Department of Intermodal Transport (2010-2018).
Mrs. Brnjac was appointed Associate Professor in 2016 and Full Professor in 2022.

From 2015 to the end of 2017, she held the position of Vice President of the Association for Intermodal Transport and Logistics at the Croatian Chamber of Economy.

She is a regular member of the Scientific Council for Transport of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2010.

In 2019, she became Head of the Section for Intermodal Transport and Logistics of the Scientific Council for Transport at CASA (Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts).

Since 2013, she is a member of the Croatian Chamber of Transport and Traffic Technology Engineers (licensed engineer for railway transport), and from 2014 a member of the Croatian Intermodal Freight Services Development Committee.

As author and co-author, she has published more than 50 scientific and professional papers, articles in professional journals, the university manual “Engineering-Technological Calculations in Railway Transport” (2009), and the university textbook “Intermodal Transport Systems” (2012).

She is editor of the journal “World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research” since 2018.

She is the editor of two proceedings: “Valorization of the Intermodal Logistics Corridor Ploče-Mostar-Sarajevo-Vukovar (Central Adriatic-Danube Region)”, CASA 2014, and “Supply Chain Management”, LOMI 2014. She is one of the authors of the scientific book “Standardization of Data Collection and Processing in the Field of Transport for the Purpose of Science and Economy Development”, University of Zagreb Development Fund, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Zagreb.

Political Career

Her political career began in 2017 when she was appointed as a State Secretary in the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
In July 2019, she was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, and during Croatia’s presidency of the Council of the European Union from January 1 to June 30, 2020, she served as delegate minister (ministre délégué), representing the Council of the European Union in the European Parliament.
As Minister of Tourism and Sport in the Government of the Republic of Croatia (2020-2024), Mrs. Brnjac initiated reforms that laid the foundations for sustainable tourism and the modernization of sports infrastructure.
As a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), in 2024 she was elected as a representative in the Croatian Parliament, and shortly afterwards as a Member of the European Parliament, joining the largest political group – the European People’s Party (EPP). In the European Parliament she actively participates in the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), the Committee on Regional Development (REGI), and the Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union (HOUS), as well as in the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (DMED), the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries (DMAS), and the Delegation to the EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly (D-UK).
Nikolina Brnjac is the EPP Group’s representative in the Working Group on Tourism, where she works on developing sustainable EU tourism, as well as the EPP Group’s coordinator in the Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the EU. Additionally, she is a shadow rapporteur for the revision of the Package Travel Directive and for the Report on the role of cohesion policy investments in addressing the EU housing crisis.
